Lisa Ramsey - B. Mus, M. A.

After completing my bachelors of music from Brandon University in Manitoba, Canada, I attended St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona for my masters of arts in arts administration. While completing my masters thesis work, I went to Alberta to work with The Banff Centre for Creativity's, Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC). For over a decade after that, I worked with BISQC and other parts of The Banff Centre, from fundraising to management and consulting roles, while also maintaining a flute studio and performing regularly with other local musicians. Beyond my time in Banff, I have also worked in arts granting, fundraising, marketing, events management, and with community foundations in both the US and Canada.

After working on both sides of the border for many years, it was ultimately the Mississippi River and the beautiful bluffs of Winona that drew me back to Minnesota to settle in with my husband along the stunning back channel of the River known as Prairie Island.

As a flutist, I has performed for acclaimed teachers Camille Churchfield, Penny Clarke, Susan Hoeppner, Marina Piccinini and Robert Dick, as well as having studied privately with teachers in both Canada and the United States. Flutist with the woodwind quintet in residence at Brandon University during my studies, I had the opportunity to tour, do educational outreach performances, as well as compete at the Canadian National Music Festival. With a passion for teaching, I have shared my musical knowledge for over thirty years in private studios in Manitoba, Alberta and Minnesota, with a Suzuki flute focus and continuing professional development classes with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Most recently, I have taken on the role of teaching flute lessons to high school and junior high band flute students at Cotter School of Winona.

The past few years I have taken on contract projects with various not-for-profits, foundations, tribal communities and environmental companies, while also indulging my desire for adventure and travel.  Besides music, I find joy and balance in athletic adventures with triathlons, water skiing, x-country skiing, horse back riding and hiking, as well as being an avid knitter. I continue to find time to teach flute and perform with other local musicians, including the Winona flute choir Flutistry.
